PETER ECCLES
Peter is a leading international lawyer with over 30 years of experience, including as a partner at three of the largest international law firms, and as Latin America regional general counsel of a global financial institution. In 2023, he was ranked by Latinvex as among the top 100 lawyers at international law firms practicing in Latin America.
Peter is a Founding Partner of PAG Law and Managing Partner of the New York office. His practice focuses on M&A, joint ventures, venture capital and private equity, debt (including, venture debt) and equity financings, securitizations and capital markets transactions. His practice is primarily cross-border, focusing on transactions between the U.S. and Latin America (particularly, Brazil).
In addition to advising private equity, venture capital, strategic and family office investors on investments in the U.S. and Latin America, Peter has advised leading public and private companies in the region on groundbreaking capital markets transactions, including the first-ever IPO in the United States by a Latin American issuer, the first-ever IPO in the United States by a Brazilian issuer, and the first-ever Rule 144A/Regulation S ADR transactions involving Brazilian issuers.
He also has extensive experience counseling technology startup companies and their founders on growing and scaling their businesses in the U.S., Latin America and globally, including closing venture financing rounds, from seed stage to unicorn rounds and exits. He has counseled a wide range of emerging growth companies, including fintechs, healthtechs and biotechs, agtechs, proptechs, e-commerce, SAAS, digital asset and sustainability tech companies regarding international corporate matters, including international corporate restructurings or “flips”, investment into the U.S. and venture capital and growth equity financings. Among recent highlights, Peter advised on a $500 million growth equity financing for a Brazilian e-commerce company which was the second-largest venture capital financing in Latin America in 2021 and a U.S.-based global EV and green-powered solutions company on an estimated $2 billion business combination with a SPAC in 2023 which is expected to be listed on NASDAQ in 2024.
Peter is fluent in Portuguese, speaks Spanish and is a lifetime member of the Council on Foreign Relations. He holds a B.A., magna cum laude, from Harvard College and a J.D. from Harvard Law School. Peter has been Peer Review Rated as AV Preeminent, the highest performance rating in Martindale-Hubbell Peer Review Ratings system.
